Three members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) surrendered and handed over their firearms to the 92nd Infantry Battalion in Datu Unsay, Maguindanao.
They were presented to Brig. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the First Brigade Combat Team, on Tuesday, September 14 at the Old Capitol in Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao. Patrimonio identified the former violent extremists as alias Nasser/Abbang, alias Munib and alias Bensar. They were former members of the BIFF Karialan and Bungos factions.
They handed over one 7.62mm sniper rifle, one 5.56mm Ultimax sub-machine gun, and one rocket-propelled grenade.
During the activity, the local governments of Shariff Aguak, Datu Hoffer and Datu Unsay, all of Maguindanao, gave financial assistance to the three surrenderers to help them in their integration back to the society. They will subsequently be enrolled in the reintegration program of the national government.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, commander of Joint Task Force Central, commended the troops and the local government units for their ongoing campaign to lure terrorists back into the folds of the law.
Likewise, Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, acting commander of Western Mindanao Command, said the breakthrough in the campaign against terrorism and violent extremism is attributable to the holistic approach embraced by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the unwavering support of the communities.
