RCMP have arrested a man wanted on warrants from multiple RCMP detachment areas in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
At about 8:30 a.m. Friday, Matthew Barker was arrested without incident at a business in Winnipeg, Man., RCMP said in a release. Officers located about 27 grams of methamphetamine in Barker’s possession, along with a weapon and drug-related paraphernalia.
RCMP say the arrest comes after “extensive investigation and collaboration” between multiple RCMP units and detachments. Following his arrest, officers conducted a search of a hotel room he had been using and found several loaded handguns.
Barker, 31, is charged with two counts each of unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm without a license/registration and possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized. Barker is also charged with carrying concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and five counts of failure to comply with release order condition.
RCMP say Barker was remanded into custody and made a court appearance in Winnipeg on Monday.
